Twitter

I used Twitter throughout this semester to tweet questions and links of thought-provoking articles about education and technology. While I found many educators and groups to follow, I have only scratched the surface of utilizing Twitter for my own PLN. I plan to connect with more people interested and involved with kindergarten, literacy, instructional technology, and how technology is used with Special Education (particularly Autism) students in the future. I believe Twitter can be a powerful classroom tool, especially with secondary students. Many of them are already using Twitter as an out-of-school literacy experience each day, many times a day. Teachers can utilize Twitter for quick, informal assessments to monitor understanding. Users are limited to 140 characters when composing a tweet, so students must focus their writing in order to demonstrate understanding through a tweet. Twitter can be a great professional development tool because it allows educators to connect from all over the world. It also provides a chance for educators to participate in a real-time discussion thread.
