Formative Assessment Activity

I used the Polleverywhere tool (www.polleverywhere.com) for a formative assessment activity with my kindergarten students. We learned the contributions of President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln during the month of February. I used the open-ended feature on the site to create a poll based on the question, "What is one thing you learned about George Washington?" I explained to my students that we would be completing an interactive writing activity where they would answer the question in their own words as well as type their names and I would record their responses by typing in their answers. I also provided the families of my students with a link to the poll so that they could continue adding to the writing/formative assessment activity. I think the polleverywhere tool was extremely effective as a formative assessment, even for kindergarten students. They enjoyed listening to their classmates' contributions as well as viewing their responses on the live poll. Many of the students continued the discussion at home as well. All of the students were able to share a contribution or characterstic of George Washington in their own words, which was the point of the formative assessment. I will use this tool again.
