Using flash cards

I chose to use the Quizlet tool (www.quizlet.com) to create a set of flashcards to reinforce number sense skills with my kindergarten students.
The SOL this set of flashcards correponds with is as follows:

Mathematics- K.2 The student, given a set containing 15 or fewer concrete objects, will
a) tell how many are in the set by counting the number of objects orally;
b) write the numeral to tell how many are in the set; and
c) select the corresponding numeral from a given set of numerals.

If you are able to pay to upgrade your account, Quizlet is a tool with many possibilities for creating useful flashcards. The free account does not enable you to upload your own images and I was required to use the images Quizlet had available. It was extremely difficult to find images that showed a set of objects (rather than just one object). I did like the fact that students could have the words read to them, which would be very beneficial for my kindergarten students. I also liked that I could search for flashcards that had already been created on topics I was interested in, such as Ten Frames.

I believe in utilizing tools that are engaging for students and I feel this tool could be engaging and motivating. Students enjoy using technology and Quizlet flash cards could be a tool they could use on their iPod touches, iPads, computers, laptops, Kindle Fires and/or tablets to reinforce skills. A link to the flashcards could be made available on my SCORE page (Spotsylvania County Online Resource for Education) for easy access. I believe the Quizlet tool is user-friendly for educators because I was able to create an account and begin creating flashcards in just a few minutes.
